Malawi Mapanga AA Coffee

What makes Malawi Mapanga Coffee so different?

The Taste!

The flavor notes of Malawi Mapanga coffee are smooth citrus (lime), berry and caramel. Some even say it has hints of green apple and nuts. The finish is impressive because of it's bright and crisp acidity, a smoother finish than other African beans. In 2005 a Malawi coffee won its first cupping competition. Its fantastic flavor has made it a sought after bean for many years, becoming a staple export to England. America only gets a small portion of the crops grown there.

The Elevation

Malawi, a tiny landlocked country in South-Eastern Africa, grows its coffee at high elevations. If you think of Mozambique as the letter Y, the little country of Malawi fits into the top part of the V. Starting at 1,000 meters above sea level; this delicious coffee grows on mountains. Agriculture accounts for about 90% of the country's earnings and supports a majority of the population. Malawi is one of the poorest countries, and coffee production has been one of its lifelines. Your purchase supports local farmers in Malawi, including those affected by years of civil strife.

The Bean

Malawi's utilize the extremely popular Arabica bean for their crops. Worldwide there are two main bean coffee crops grown, Arabica and Robusto. Arabica accounts for about 80% of the crops grown around the world and tend to fare better in the higher elevations. The first coffee grown in Malawi is said to have come from the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh Scotland, sometime in the late 1800s.
